Update on building of Trowbridge Health Centre
The Trowbridge Health Centre is going to be the product of the merger of Bradford Road Medical Centre, Adcroft Surgery and Widbrook Surgery. This new practice will have a patient population of approximately 30,000. It will be run over two sites (the main Trowbridge Health Centre building which is an extension of Adcroft Surgery which is currently being built and the Widbrook Surgery on Wingfield Road).
As we are sure you have read in the media, all of the NHS and particularly primary care is currently experiencing a significant shortfall in workforce and rise in demand for its services. There is a nationwide trend for the upsizing of primary care and the larger organization will hopefully prove to be much more resilient. As the complexity of general practice increases, it is increasingly evident that to have a broader skill mix of doctors and other practitioners provides the best service. This is much easier to achieve in a larger organization.
Bradford Road /Adcroft are delighted to report that after their well-chronicled delays stretching over the best part of a decade, the building aspect of Trowbridge Health Centre is now well underway. The contractors have been on-site since approximately May 2016 and are making good progress. The new main entrance from Seymour Road has been formed and progress with the ground-works and footings has proceeded without any noticeable set-backs. Within the next month the steels for the structure will be erected.
The aim is to vacate the current Bradford Road site around June 2017.
There is an open meeting on Thursday 15 September starting at 7 pm at the Trowbridge Civic Hall. We will be providing a short presentation and will be taking questions from the floor. All are welcome to attend.
These are truly exciting times for general practice and I am sure that we can deliver a service fit for the 21st Century by the end of it all.
Dr. C Foggett on behalf of the Adcroft, Bradford Road and Widbrook surgeries.
